Bringing You What Keeps Me Awake since 2008.
VBS sent Mr. Alan Del Rio Ortiz to Knoxville to check out the University of Tennessee’s Anthropological Research Facility, also known as the Body Farm. Started in 1980 by Dr. Bill T Bass, this open-air facility is filled with corpses that are studied as they decompose.
So if you get queasy easily, you’ll probably want to wait to watch this after your lunch break.

Guess these guys meant business… Great gang names too. “Invinsible” Black Vultures with an “S” instead of a “C”! Awesome! So crazy. Remember these from back in the day, mostly carried by the kids hogging Karate Champ at the arcade and selling BMX parts, fireworks and weed in the park.
You can check out the rest of the collection HERE.
Love that some dudes didn’t make it onto the card in time for the printer, so they had to be written in.

Shot in 1997 by indie filmmaker Rick Madsen, this 36 min documentary was filmed during the recording of the Modest Mouse album “The Lonesome Crowded West.” Artists interviewed include Elliott Smith, Spencer Moody from The Murder City Devils, Doug Martsch of Built To Spill, Sam Coombs of Quasi and Calvin Johnson, but the real nuggets come around 29 minutes in when Isaac, drinking Mickey’s in the park on his 30 minute break from work, starts to question the documentarian about his process and offers suggestions for rookie director’s success.
Recorded May 11, 1998 at the Black Cat in Washington, DC. Complete with indie rock head bobs, song requests and prompt denial of those requests by Mr. Brock.

As some may know, Modest Mouse is of my favorite bands of all time and I can tell you where I was the first time I heard them. It was 1996 and I was in the bedroom of my apartment on Walton Place (off Augusta) in Chicago.
The band was staying with Scott Anna from Sweep the Leg Johnny at “The Estate” over on Wood, and that day from my living room I heard my new/ex girlfriend April say something like “you’ve got to check out this band staying at Scottie’s, they gave me a CD, Isaac, the singer’s hilarious…” blah, blah, blah.
Next thing I heard were the scratchy opening notes “All Night Diner” blurping through the speakers and I stopped in my fucking tracks. I was was hunched over picking up laundry at the time and I swear it took half the song just to get back to standing. By the time I walked the 4 feet around the corner into the living room, I knew that Modest Mouse would find it’s place in music history.
I could only wonder whether other people were getting it like I was getting it, and if that was the case then eventually, someday they’d probably end up bigger than even they ever wanted to be. Regardless the sound was now out in the universe, it was true, and they’d just recruited a lifelong fan in me.
Anyway, so back to the new track… The video’s cool — whatever — But upon first listen it feels to me like The Lonesome West has gotten a little Crowded if you know what I mean — So I’m kind of psyched and sad at the same time. But ask me tomorrow and I’ll know every word and be playing along on my guitar in my room like I’m 10 years old again and learning the chords to “Iron Man.”

Cool cotton candy electro acid crack from Mr. Rob Lee (aka Friendly Fires’ bassist and maraca man) and a video chock-full of happy things that terrify me.
Here ‘ya go…
